12/18/2006 - Welcome to the site of one of the newest, biggest members of the ArtistShare community, The Gotham Wind Symphony! The GWS is a 45-piece wind band, styled after the concept originated by the great Dr. Frederick Fennell in 1952. Our band, however, is a little more NYC. Since jazz is one of America’s greatest artistic contributions, we will play as much of it as possible. But, unlike most other AritstShare members, we will also play works by the great classical composers (there are many) who were smart enough to write for the wind band.
For the new-to-the-genre, our instrumentation is: Piccolo 2 Flutes 2 Oboes 2 Bassoons Eb Clarinet 6 Bb Clarinets Bassett Horn Bass Clarinet 2 Alto Saxes 2 Tenor Saxes Baritone Sax Bass sax/Alto Clarinet/Contrabass Sax, etc. 5 Trumpets/Cornets/Flugelhorns 4 Horns 2 Trombones Bass Trombone Euphonium 2 Tubas 5 Percussion Drum Kit Acoustic Bass Piano
When you consider the list above, and add the fact that we won’t always have all of us playing, the possibilities are endless. Imagine them with us.
